Parent-teacher conference

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE.

Before we have to finish our third project, our teacher gave us some advices about how to run a perfect parent-teacher conference.

First of all, we had to understand what is exacty a parent-teacher conference. A parent-teacher conference is a short meeting or conference between the parents and teachers of students to discuss children's progress at school and find solutions to academic or behavioral problems.

As future teachers, we must know how to deal with this type of interviews because we will have a lot of them during our academic year. 

After breaking the ice with this topic, we saw a video talking about tips we could use in order to know how to run better a parent-teacher conference. Some of these tips were:

- Welcome the parents.

- Talk about the positive aspects of the student first, then the bad ones. 

- Improve the success of the student with homework.

- Let the parents know what are exactly the materials their child usually uses.

- Bring a portfolio of the student's work.

- Send home-sheets with questions for the parents.

- Know very well your objectives.

- Prepare students for conference. 

- State the purpose and the time for the conference.

- Describe theis child's progress in major areas and ask how they feel about child's progress.

- Set mutual goals and establish timelines for goals.

- Summarize (thanks for coming, set another meeting day...).

- Evaluate conference: follow up with students and follow up with parents.
